Firsthand x UNICEF ‘Creating demand for routine immunization’

Work Category

Animation, Art Direction

Project Details

Firsthand reached out to me to art direct 8 animations for UNICEF’s immunization initiative for 8 marginalized communities in different countries.

The core goal of this project was creating engaging informative videos which explain the important work that Firsthand and UNICEF are conducting with marginalised communities, in order to convince families to vaccinate their children.

We based all of our animations on four important visual languages
to tie everything together:

1. Color
2. Composition
3. Illustration
4. Photography

1. Color
The colors stem from the Human Centered Design identity, each color code was then assigned to a community, creating a color progression along the animation.

2. Composition
It was important to create clean and simplified compositions in order to boil down information visually for the viewer.

3. Illustration
The simple illustration and cutout style used adds a tactile and human touch to the information and photography presented.

4. Photography
Using photography is important to the case study as it contextualises the information at hand. The challenge was to find an interesting way to incorporate photography stylistically without boring the viewer. Therefore we also created a cutout feel for this medium.
